As part of the Fête de la Science #FDS2025, Les Petits Débrouillards of Réunion organized the science village “An Ocean to Share” at the Léon Lepervanche Vocational High School. The event aims to raise awareness among young people about science, the marine environment, and careers at sea through fun, interactive, and educational activities.
The Institut Bleu and CITEB are committed to supporting young people
The Institut Bleu and CITEB (Technical Center for Research and Development of Aquatic Environments) were on hand to meet with middle and high school students and introduce them to the maritime sector and careers at sea in Réunion.

Conference on the Increasing Number of Women in Maritime Professions
A highlight of the day was the panel discussion hosted by the Institut Bleu on the growing number of women in maritime professions. Several women at different stages of their careers—whether still in training, just starting out, or seasoned professionals—shared their inspiring stories.
Through their experiences, anecdotes, and journeys—which were sometimes fraught with obstacles—they conveyed a powerful message about the role of women in the maritime world. Their discussions highlighted the challenges they have faced, as well as the successes and positive developments observed in the sector in recent years.
This opportunity for dialogue also served to inspire younger generations, encourage the sharing of experiences, and spark an interest in the field among the middle and high school students in attendance.

A day full of discoveries and meaningful exchanges
The Science Village offered a varied program:
- Immersive activities and science experiments
- Lectures and testimonials
- Tours, exhibitions, and escape games
This event fostered scientific curiosity, introduced young participants to careers in the maritime sector, and raised their awareness of marine environmental protection.
Acknowledgments
The Institut Bleu and CITEB would like to extend their warmest thanks to Les Petits Débrouillards of Réunion for organizing this science fair, as well as to all the speakers for their dedication and insightful contributions.
Thanks to initiatives like this one, young people in Réunion can get a taste of science, explore the maritime world, and consider careers in the blue economy—a strategic sector for both the island and the planet.
